Dr Bronner's Soaps and pH

Tuesday, 7 April 2020 11:18:21 AM Australia/Sydney

Is the pH of soap important?

Soaps vary in their pH depending on how they are manufactured. Natural saponification (or the use of caustic soda (or lye) to saponify oils and fats to make soap), even with the removal of as much lye as you can, still results in a soap which has a pH in the range 10 to 11.5. This is very alkaline and can cause some irritation to sensitive skin. Common mass market toilet soaps, laundry soaps and even some “baby soaps” can fall into this category. Soaps that are based on milder saponification techniques or are “superfatted” have a much lower pH of around 8.5 to 10. While this is still alkaline it is much less alkaline than mass market soaps (pH stands for “potential Hydrogen” and indicates acidity or alkalinity. NB the pH scale is a logarithmic scale which means something with a pH of 11 is ten times more alkaline than a something with a pH of 10, or 100 times more alkaline than something with a pH of 9, and so on). The soaps you see that have a pH around 5.5 (the pH of normal skin) are synthetic soaps made from a selection of detergents and binders, not based on the saponification of fats and oils (also called syndet bars).

What is the pH of Dr Bronner’s Soaps?

Dr. Bronner’s soaps are true soaps made from organic coconut, palm kernel, olive, hemp, and jojoba oils.  They have been tested and have a pH around pH 9, which makes them one of the mildest soaps based on the saponification of fats and oils, the traditional method of making soap.

The many ways to use essential oils

Thursday, 26 March 2020 4:18:44 PM Australia/Sydney

VAPOURISATION

You can use a diffuser to disperse the beneficial properties of the essential oils into a room.  Choose an essential oil blend that suits your need or one that you like the aroma of. Simply add to the water approximately 5 drops or a couple of shakes of the bottle.  Check your vapouriser often to see if it is low on water and oils.

STEAM INHALATION

Add approximately 5 drops or a couple of shakes of the bottle of your favourite essential oil blend into a bowl with around six to eight cups of boiling water (careful not to burn yourself), and then breath in the steam for five to 10 minutes. You can put a towel over your head to help increase the effectiveness.

Research validates Bergamot's anti-stress effects

Tuesday, 11 February 2020 10:55:05 AM Australia/Sydney

Scientists in Italy have elucidated the way Bergamot oil lowers stress-induced anxiety and affects mild depression. They go on to note that there is firing of brain cells in such a way that the essential oil "is able to interfere with normal synaptic plasticity".

This is a very interesting study validating aromatherapy's aroma-therapeutic action. It’s in the brain that a response occurs from smelling a scent. Our smell sense is the only one with the direct connection to the brain, while all the others have their signal travel through something to get there. And the smell sense is wired right to our most primitive centres, the ones that control emotions such as anxiety, distress and fear, among other things.

BE SPORT - IMAGINE MY SURPRISE

Friday, 31 May 2019 2:23:22 PM Australia/Sydney

"BE SPORT product that came as a package deal was just left in the cupboard and forgotten about. My mother has arthritis in her knees and it was too painful for her to do the walking she needed to do to keep her weight down and fitness up, so I took the BE SPORT down to her to see if it would give her some relief from her pains. Not wanting Pa to feel left out, I decided to give his legs and feet a thorough massage too with the BE SPORT.

My Story by Elaine

Tuesday, 26 March 2019 1:36:08 PM Australia/Sydney

I’ll tell you all my story
In hope that you will see
The therapeutic benefits
Obtained from using BE

I always knew that nature
Held secrets yet untold
Abound with ageless remedies
Passed down from days of old

The smell of grandma’s lavender
And homegrown herbal Tea
Were just a part of childhood
Familiar to me

Did you know that our doctors now make a Physician's Pledge rather than swear on the Hippocratic Oath?  A great majority of people still believe that our doctors swear by the Hippocratic Oath as part of their doctor training not realising that they now use the Physician's Pledge.

Which one do you prefer?

HIPPOCRATIC OATH

I swear by Apollo Physician and Asclepius and Hygieia and Panaceia and all the gods and goddesses, making them my witnesses, that I will fulfill according to my ability and judgment this oath and this covenant:

To hold him who has taught me this art as equal to my parents and to live my life in partnership with him, and if he is in need of money to give him a share of mine, and to regard his offspring as equal to my brothers in male lineage and to teach them this art - if they desire to learn it - without fee and covenant; to give a share of precepts and oral instruction and all the other learning to my sons and to the sons of him who has instructed me and to pupils who have signed the covenant and have taken an oath according to the medical law, but no one else.

Aromatherapy Changes Lives

Thursday, 24 January 2019 10:18:05 AM Australia/Sydney

"Oh I have been meaning to write a letter about the life that Balanced Essentials has given not only me but my whole family. It was around 18 years ago I tuned into TVSN to watch my favourite bear show... But it wasn't to be, instead they were having a long event celebrating a new supplier and Cheryl was there to chat with customers and answer questions.

I watched thinking maybe this could work... When they started talking about BE Sport and BE Relieved I was more intrigued... You see I had a young child who was born with cerebral palsy and as such had lots of muscle spasms and was about to have major orthopaedic surgery and I was concerned of the amount of medication that would be needed to ease his pain.

So I took the option to call up and explained this to Cheryl, she was lovely and advised that the BE Sport and BE Relieved would be a great help to him (as I was only on a pension the send it back if not satisfied option sold me) I placed my order and eagerly awaited the first shipment."
