Kaye's Story

Thursday, 3 September 2015 1:37:40 PM Australia/Sydney

Our 20th Anniversary was not only a celebration for Balanced Essentials but it also was a time to focus on what aromatherapy and essential oils can do to help heal our bodies. Many of our customers wrote to us to tell us how their lives had been improved and changed. This is Kaye's Story:

“Hello Cheryl, I just want to tell you that I absolutely love your products.  I have used many different ones for many years now and I can honestly say that I love them all.

The benefits of BE Relieved and BE Sport are amazing for all sorts of aches, pains, muscle strains & soreness, arthritis, irritable bowel and upset stomachs, insect bites, sunburn etc.  I think that one of the most beautiful experiences I have had with BE Relieved was when my sister was staying with me for a period of time.

Aromatherapy is one of the most effective treatments for arthritis

Thursday, 3 September 2015 12:59:08 PM Australia/Sydney

Arthritis is characterised by pain and inflammation ranging anywhere from a dull, sharp, burning sensation or a pressure that as one person described it: “as an insidious form of pain that only another arthritis sufferer can truly understand”.

But did you know that there are several different kinds of arthritis? The 3 most common ones are rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and gout. These cause joint distress and result in the pain and inflammation that sufferers complain about.

Recent case studies are now showing that aromatherapy is one of the most effective treatments for arthritis and there are other benefits too. A good essential oil blend can stimulate circulation and help us eliminate toxic waste, as well as provide considerable relief from pain and inflammation, resulting in increased mobility.

The benefits don’t just stop there. Many essential oils contain antidepressant properties to help you deal with the emotions and anxiety whilst the calming benefits can help ease that transition between pain and sleep.

It's time for a big re-think of what we classify as a medicine

Wednesday, 26 August 2015 12:12:38 PM Australia/Sydney

Our BE RELIEVED is in the same category as Panadol and Nurofen,we pay an annual fee as a 'Listed Medicine' yet it is still looked on as an alternative medicine. It's time for a big re-think of what we classify as a medicine. As Kurt Schnaubelt in Medical Aromatherapy Healing with Essential Oils says: "Modalities such as aromatherapy, which acknowledges the phenomena of the soul, will be vastly more successful in treating the real problems of our times than conventional medicine. Medicine as it stands is part of the problem, therefore it can do very little for its solution".

We often forget to say thank you

Friday, 21 August 2015 2:38:01 PM Australia/Sydney

For most of us our daily lives have become so complicated and busy that we often forget to say "Thank You" to those that have supported and helped us.

Yesterday we sent out an email offering a BE Confident Natural Deodorant on a purchase of $100 or over and we have been overwhelmed with orders.

I'd just like to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

Balanced Essentials is now Australia's Most Respected Aromatherapy Company and it is due to you and your support.

Why you need to know about the placebo effect

Wednesday, 12 August 2015 3:11:10 PM Australia/Sydney

Why it's important to know about the placebo effect and how you can use it to decrease your pain and increase your bodies ability to heal

Also called the placebo response, this remarkable phenomenon in which a placebo -- a fake treatment, an inactive substance like sugar, distilled water, or saline solution -- can sometimes improve a patient's condition simply because the person has the expectation that it will be helpful. Expectation to experience something plays a potent role in the placebo effect.

The more a person believes they are going to benefit from a treatment, the more likely it is that they will experience a benefit.

How many times were you told as a child that if you worry too much it will make you sick? Our minds are incredibly powerful and our beliefs have the ability to either heal or make us sick.

An interesting study done at Harvard Medical School by Ted Kaptchuk to test the results of a placebo took place in early 2000 in a collaboration with gastroenterologists studying irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a chronic gastrointestinal disorder accompanied by pain and constipation. The experiment split 262 adults with IBS into three groups: a no-treatment control group, told they were on a waiting list for treatment; a second group who received sham acupuncture without much interaction with the practitioner; and a third group who received sham acupuncture with great attention lavished upon them—at least 20 minutes of what Kaptchuk describes as “very schmaltzy” care (“I’m so glad to meet you”; “I know how difficult this is for you”; “This treatment has excellent results”). Practitioners were also required to touch the hands or shoulders of members of the third group and spend at least 20 seconds lost in thoughtful silence.

What he found was inspiring but not surprising.

Why is lavender essential oil so versatile?

Tuesday, 28 July 2015 4:11:19 PM Australia/Sydney

Lavender essential oil has a sweet, fresh, floral, herbaceous, and slightly fruity aroma and is one of the most versatile of the essential oils because of its sedative, carminative, anti-depressive and anti-inflammatory properties, in addition to its recognised antimicrobial effects.

Because of its versatility lavender essential oil has been used over the ages by various cultures in many different ways. The ancient Greeks used lavender to battle constipation, chest pains, and throat infections. Legend claims that lavender was taken from the Garden of Eden by Adam and Eve.

Essential oils to keep you warm

Friday, 10 July 2015 4:17:24 PM Australia/Sydney

I've been a lover of essential oils now for over 20 years and by now you must know that I'm very passionate about them.

I strongly believe that they are our medicine of the future. Most times, pain can be quickly and easily relieved naturally, cuts and scratches can be treated, including minor burns and fluid and inflammation can be reduced.  I feel strongly that aromatherapy will become first choice as people realise their safety and the many benefits they have over pharmaceuticals that always carry a risk of an adverse drug reaction.

Because of their vast complexity and human individuality, modern science is just now beginning to realize we have only scratched the surface in understanding how essential oils work and interact within the human body.

Their analgesic properties are well documented and for those of you with arthritis this and their anti-inflammatory nature gives great relief and allows for more movement in your joints. Added to this some essential oils such as bergamot and neroli are antidepressant whilst sweet orange is helps uplift your spirit when you are feeling down.

Fiona's Story

Thursday, 2 July 2015 2:09:40 PM Australia/Sydney

“Oh I have been meaning to write a letter about the life that Balanced Essentials has given not only me but my whole family. It was around 18 years ago I tuned into TVSN to watch my favourite bear show... But it wasn't to be, instead they were having a long event celebrating a new supplier and Cheryl was there to chat with customers and answer questions.

I watched thinking maybe this could work... When they started talking about BE Sport and BE Relieved I was more intrigued... You see I had a young child who was born with cerebral palsy and as such had lots of muscle spasms and was about to have major orthopaedic surgery and I was concerned of the amount of medication that would be needed to ease his pain.

A Natural Remedy for Cold and Flu

Friday, 19 June 2015 3:22:59 PM Australia/Sydney

A great natural remedy for colds and flu is a combination of lemon juice, honey, coconut oil and lemon essential oil.

Recipe: 3 tbsp lemon juice, 1/4 cup honey (manuka is best), 3 tbsp coconut oil, 2 drops lemon essential oil

Mix lemon juice, honey and coconut oil in a small saucespan and heat over a low heat until the coconut oil is melted. Take off the heat and add 2 drops of lemon essential oil and blend all ingredients together to form a syrup.

Take by the spoonful or add to hot water for a soothing and immune boosting drink.

Ever wonder why we seem to get either a cold or the flu when the weather turns cold?

Now scientists have found the answer. It appears the virus lasts longer in cold, dry air, and our sluggish, cold-weather mucus can't clear it out.
