Essential Oils as First Choice for Pain Relief

Posted on: July 14th, 2010

Imagine using essential oils as a first choice for just about all your aches and pains knowing that your whole family will benefit and without the side effects of conventional medication.

They are nature’s gifts that help everything from scratches and skin conditions, to cleansing our bodies and homes, alleviating the suffering of arthritis and headache and much, much more. Truly a natural versatile first-aid measure! And when your’re tired and stressed what better way to relax than an aromatic bath.

I have written many times of the need to detox our bodies on a regular basis and how important it is to our overall health. I’d like to let you know also that another important way to detox is through sleep. Not just any sleep where we awake feeling tired and lethargic but a really nourishing deep sleep where we awake refreshed, relaxed and ready for the day ahead with enthusiasm. Did you know that for your body to do this is needs a number of vital ingredients?

Sleep comes under the control of our brain and in order to function effectively our brain requires vitamins, minerals and essential nutritients. And how many of us are giving our bodies and therefore our brains adequate amounts of this? Our diets are now so acid producing and unbalanced by the amount of chemicals in the meat and chicken we consume and we also miss many of the alkalising green vegetables that are required.by purchasing our fruits and vegetables sprayed with pesticides and herbicides. So, what can we do? We can buy organic meats, fruits and vegetables and we can use quality supplements (there are some great ones on the market) to help supply adequate nutrition.

And we can also use aromatherapy. Why not, its been used for thousands of years and it’s a natural and non-addictive way to help relax our bodies and encourage sleep.

There are some wonderful essential oils that are used in aromatherapy that help. You probably already know about the benefits of Lavender for helping with sleep but there are many others as well. And for those that don’t like the smell of Lavender you can always change the aroma by adding other essentials oils to make an aroma that you’ll love. Try a blend using Lavender, Orange, Marjoram, Petitgrain and Neroli, if possible. Neroli though is a very expensive essential oil so you may want to find a product that already has it included instead of purchasing it on its own. (It’s also good for shock and grief so any blend including this is also a great rescue remedy). Just add a carrier oil of sweet almond, for example, and apply to your body before bedtime or if it’s a cold night and you usually only shower in the morning apply it to your face, legs and feet. Aromatherapy is also great for the skin to help encourage regeneration of the skin cells and to moisturise.

Geranium and Bergamot are other essential oils that have a balancing effect on the nervous system and help to relieve anxiety and depression, therefore often helping with sleep. And Cedarwood exerts a warming, harmonising & calming action on the nervous system, helping to ground the emotions.

Why not try aromatherapy, you have everything to gain, including sleep.
