The many ways to use essential oils
Vapourisation
You can use a diffuser to disperse the beneficial properties of the essential oils into a room. Choose an essential oil blend that suits your need or one that you like the aroma of. Simply add to the water approximately 5 drops or a couple of shakes of the bottle. Check your vapouriser often to see if it is low on water and oils.
Steam Inhalation
Add approximately 5 drops or a couple of shakes of the bottle of your favourite essential oil blend into a bowl with around six to eight cups of boiling water (careful not to burn yourself), and then breath in the steam for five to 10 minutes. You can put a towel over your head to help increase the effectiveness.
Skin Application
Essential oils need to be diluted if applied to the skin except if it’s on very small areas such as a wart or a crusty skin condition. Carrier oils such as sweet almond dilute the pure essential oils to a correct level anywhere between 1.5 to 5 percent. Applying essential oils to the throat or chest area can also help reduce cold or flu symptoms as there is no real cure for either ailment only helping with the symptoms until your body and immune system do the job of helping you heal.
Essential oils help you feel better faster if you do get sick. Studies have shown that certain essential oils can kill bacteria, and some have even been tested against influenza and other viruses. As well as antiviral properties they also have antibacterial action that doubles up the benefits as sometimes after a viral infection like the flu, you get a secondary bacterial infection, so it’s ideal that there’s more than one therapeutic action.
