What are varicose veins?
Some essential oils such as cypress, lemon, lavender, juniper, geranium and rosemary can assist in the treatment of varicose veins. This is because they are considered venous decongestants, circulatory stimulants and they have an astringent action.
Varicose veins are the result of weakness of the valves inside the veins that allow the blood to flow back to the heart leading to blood accumulating in the veins, stretching them and causing varicosities. Often accompanied by dull, nagging aches and pains. Swellings, sore legs, leg cramps and feelings of heaviness in the legs are also characteristic of varicose veins. Generally they are not considered harmful if the vein is near the surface but it does make them cosmetically unappealing.
BE Lite for Cellulite can assist in the maintenance of peripheral circulation and contains cypress. Use only gently, upward, light strokes when applying the massage oil. Work up the legs from the feet towards the heart. Individuals with varicose veins have a decreased ability to break down fibrin. The result is that fibrin is deposited in the tissues near the varicose veins. The skin becomes hard and lumpy due to the presence of fibrin and fat.
